KB Screen is a virtual service offering age-related routine screening for residents of Kootenay Boundary who don’t currently have a primary care provider. *
We offer screening for breast, cervical, colon, lung and prostate cancer.

KB Screen is NOT a primary care clinic and does not offer primary care health services, other general medical services, walk-in appointments or ICBC/WorkSafe assessments. Accessing the screening services offered does not mean that you are attached to a primary care provider. Please make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria:
- You are a resident of Kootenay Boundary region, which includes the communities of Castlegar, Christina Lake, East Shore, Fruitvale, Grand Forks, Greenwood, Kaslo, Midway, Nakusp, Nelson, New Denver, Salmo, Rossland, Rock Creek, and Trail.
- You are registered for the Medical Services Plan (MSP)
- You are over the age of 40
- You do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner
- You do not have any symptoms

Note: If this is an emergency, please go to the Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC) or your nearest Emergency Department
Screening Services
Our registered nurses and nurse practitioners will guide you through the testing process, and any further testing or referrals, should they be required. We also offer on-going surveillance for people with a previous cancer diagnosis who are not receiving active cancer care.
Cancer Screening
Cancer screening helps to find signs of cancer in your body before you develop any symptoms. Finding cancer early on can increase the chances of effective treatment.
Cancer screening guidelines by age:
- Breast Cancer (mammogram) – women aged 40-74
- Cervical Cancer (self-screening HPV test) – anyone with a cervix aged 25-69
- Colon Cancer (at-home FIT kit) – anyone aged 50-74
- Lung Cancer (CT scan) – anyone 55-74 who has smoked tobacco for 20 years or more, either currently or in the past
- Prostate Cancer – anyone 50-70 who screening has been recommended for

- Syphilis and HIV – On demand.
